20 Tips to Having A More Positive Day

I’ll never forget stumbling upon a quote that changed my perspective for life:

“Today is a great day to have a great day.”

The quote reminded me that positivity and having an awesome day are not happenstance. They don’t come because of how we feel. They come because of what we choose to do.

I’ve learned, no matter what is going on, we can always, yes I mean always, find something to be positive about and brighten our days. And frankly, our days will go how we dictate them. My friend, if you need a little bit more sunshine in your days, choose to implement the following tips and watch your days become filled noticeably with unending sunshine.

1. Plan the Night Before

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed, my days are much smoother when I have taken some time out the night before, to write out a plan for the next day. Sometimes it involves a full to-do list. Other times, I jot out a few ideas of what I need to get done. No matter what, planning your day out the night before will put your mind at ease, keep you less scattered and be more positive.

2. Prepare the Night Before

Before tapping out for the night, go ahead and get everything ready for the next day. Prepare your meals for yourself and your family. Prepare your clothes, exactly what you need to wear for all events of the day. Get your belongings in order. This way, you’re not forgetting anything, feeling rushed in the morning, or overwhelmed from lack of preparation.

3. Positive Affirmations

Keep positive affirmations close by. Turn them into daily mantras. Put them somewhere they will be seen. Place them in areas like: your bathroom mirror, car rearview mirror, on your fridge, or even on your desk at home. Affirmations strengthen you mentally and will shift your mood positively.

4. Start by Journaling

Even if you’re not a writer. The object is not a perfect thesis. The goal is for you to get your thoughts flowing when you wake up. Take 5-10 minutes for yourself and let our all your thoughts on paper to clear your mind and ease yourself into the day.

5. Have Gratitude

Gratefulness begets happiness. Take a moment at the start of your day to write down some things you’re grateful for. Once you’ve got them down, read them over a few times. Keep them close throughout the day, and whenever your positivity starts to wane, refresh your mind with what you’re grateful for.

6. Block Negative Thoughts

Filter your thoughts and only approve of the positive. Take ownership of what you think about and choose to think positively. You control what you think about, what you ponder, and what you downright dwell on. Let only positive thoughts remain. Kick every negative thought to the curb.

7. Ignore your Phone

Don’t let social media be the first thing you interact with in the morning. Don’t even bother attending to your phone for the 1st hour of your day. Attend to other activities. Just this act alone will help you have a clearer and more positive day.

8. Stretch and Exercise

It’s been expressed that exercise is the natural feel good drug. When you get your body moving, your mind responds. Positive chemicals are released into the body causing your mind to be uplifted. A quick jog, walking with an audiobook, or morning yoga can do wonders for your day.

9. Walk your Pets

A brief walk with your best friend will help bring some instant sunshine to your day. Go for a nice walk around your neighborhood or favorite park, let the sunshine seep in and breathe new life into your day.

10. Read a Blog

There are thousands of blogs dedicated to self care, positivity, inspiration and motivation. Start your day off with reading at least one article that will inspire you and change your mood for the better.

11. Read your Favorite Book

I must say, as a bookworm, I am biased. However, nothing to me beats cuddling up with a good book and nice hot cup of my favorite coffee. Coffee not your thing? No problem. Get some tea, or even hot cocoa. Whatever you’re drinking, snuggle up with a good book and travel for a bit before starting your day.

12. Listen to a Podcast

Inspirational podcasts and audiobooks are becoming the rulers of the day. Invest in finding quality podcasts that will teach you something, stretch your mind, and make you more productive as the go getter you already are. Start your day with a good podcast before diving into anything else.

13. Implement Self Care

At all costs, you want to maintain your positivity. Do so, simply, by taking care of yourself. You can’t edify anyone else’s life, until you’ve taken care of yours. Think positively. Say your affirmations out loud. Do a quick exercise. Take deep breaths. Medite a little while. Have a nice shower and do a facial treatment. Take care of you and the day will take care of itself.

14. Make Your Bed

A bed undone can lead to feeling flustered, disorganized and out of order. Do yourself a favor and take a few minutes each morning, as soon as you rise, to make your bed neatly. Having your bed one gives you an inner sense of accomplishment and control which will help ease your day.

15. Get Rid of Clutter

Nothing kicks positivity to the curb like clutter. When things are out of order and sporadically littered everywhere, you’re flustered. It also amplifies the feeling of loss of control. By ridding of clutter, you’re taking back control and removing anything that would strip your positivity.

16. Speak Life

Be mindful of what you say. Speaking positively will help you be positive. What you speak about is, generally, how you will end up feeling. When you focus on positive energy, and vibes, by speaking about things that bring you joy and encouragement, you subconsciously change the tune of your day for the better.

17. Listen to Music with Great Vibes

Music is the one thing in this world that has the ability to infiltrate your mind without permission. When it does so, it affects your thoughts, your mood, and your outlook on life. Throw on some pumping tunes that will get you moving and feeling like you’re floating in the clouds. Doing so will dramatically shift how your day goes by.

18. Eat Healthy

Believe it or not, healthy eating can make your day brighter. Especially when it’s at breakfast time, the most important meal of the day. Make a few smoothies, grab some fruit, have a few spoons of peanut butter. Fill up on a hearty breakfast and take your day on like a champ.

19. Be Present

Step into your day and own it. By applying the many ways to have a positive day, you can take each one head on. Be in the moment. Don’t let your mind wander to the past or think too much about the future. Remain present and let the rest take care of itself.

20. Smile

Pretty simple, no? There have been multiple studies that prove, when you smile, your day becomes infinitely better. Like, receiving up to 16,000 Pounds Sterling in cash, better. Nothing will cause you to have a more positive day than doing the smallest gesture of all, waking up, taking a deep breath, and smiling.

Are you Ready for a Better Day?

Being positive is a mindset shift, a daily decision, and a way of life. It may be hard at first to have brighter days depending on where you are in life and what exactly you’re facing.

But be encouraged, positive days and positive vibes can flow your way if you actively choose for them to. You decide how your 24 hours will go. It’s up to you to command more sunshine. When you do, it’s smooth sailing from here.

Remember, your attitude is the paintbrush with the power to color your world.
