Every day can seem the same – you jar yourself awake, haphazardly find something to wear, don’t even realize you skipped breakfast, go to work and come home after a long day, passing out on your bed.
We live our lives in a blur. Routines, work, drama, school, obligations and a million other things keep us busy.
We are soo busy checking off our to-do lists, that we forget to carve time out for ourselves.
You’ll find that if you dedicate some time to pamper yourself, it will change your life.
Taking me time has psychological and physical benefits. You will feel more refreshed and ultimately happier. You will also feel less stressed and any stress you do encounter, will be easier to manage.
All you need is to wake up 30 minutes before you normally do and use that time to get to know yourself a little better. It’s easier than you think.
Here are 8 ways to fill up that time and learn to love who you are.
1. Really Wake Up
Setting your alarm 30 minutes earlier than normal can be excruciating if you enjoy sleeping in. So, to really make an impact, splash cold water on your face.
This instantly wakes you up and gets your mental alertness in check.
If you find this is still too shocking for you, try moving your alarm far away so that you have to get out of bed to shut it off.
Doing these extra annoying things will shake the zombie life outta of you and get you ready for the day a lot quicker.
2. Do Some Morning Stretches
I don’t know about you, but I always seem to wake up with sore muscles. A great way to loosen up is to do some morning stretches or some simple yoga exercises.
Some great yoga poses to include in your morning routine are:
- child’s pose
- happy baby
3. Start a Journal
Journaling is a great way to express yourself, identify your needs and just write about anything you want. You don’t have to get a journal book, but being able to just sit and take it “old school” creates a nice little ritual that you can do anywhere.
Of course, if you can’t part from your digital devices, you can create a blog or make your own personal diary so that no one can read it.
What’s great about writing down your thoughts rather than your to-do list, is that it’s healthy for you. Journaling strengthens immune cells, making your less likely to get sick. Also, writing about your stresses can actually help you deal with your stress in a functional and appropriate way.
4. (For Moms) Let Your Husband Take Care of the Kids
Being a mom can be stressful. It’s a full-time job and you don’t get any breaks. To help you get some more me time, tell your husband it would mean the world to you if he could take care of the kids in the morning. It doesn’t have to be every morning, but you can ask him to do it three days a week or whatever you need.
Now, this doesn’t mean you get to sleep in! This is your opportunity to get ready for the day. Dress up a bit, put on your favorite body lotion and pamper yourself.
You never know, doing this extra bit of pampering yourself can lead to fun times with your husband!
5. Go For a Jog
Have you dumped all your New Year’s resolutions yet? Well, don’t worry. You are allowed to start over again. A great way to have some me time and get healthy is to do some jogging or walking.
I’m sure you know jogging can do you wonders on your health. It’s been shown to:
- Reduce stress
- Boost “happy” chemicals in your brain
- Alleviate anxiety
- Improve your self-confidence
- Sharpen your memory
- Help with addiction
Instead of running around doing things, why not sit and do nothing? This is the time to focus on your breathing and to wipe out all the tasks and duties you have to do for the day.
It may seem weird at first and you may not even be able to clear your head, but don’t give up on it; carve out some time every morning and just relax. Slow your breathing and close your eyes and just focus on you.
7. Have a Quickie
If you’re married or in a relationship, why not spice up your love life with a little quickie in the morning? According to RSVP Magazine:
[I]ncreasing research is telling us that one quick morning glory each day not only has multiple health benefits, but it’s guaranteed to brighten up your dreary morning.
So, how does having sex improve your health?
- You’ll be happier
- You’re less likely to have a heart attack
- It burns around 180 calories
- You’ll have less migraines
8. Put Yourself First
If you’re married, in a relationship or have children, putting yourself first can be nearly impossible, but not entirely.
Those 30 minutes in the morning is enough to put yourself first. Allow yourself to have that time and once it’s done, you can focus on your children and anything else that needs your attention.
When you take the time to focus on you, you’ll be happier, less stressed and able to take on the world!
